Hi, I’m Bing.
Drawing is my joy. But I haven’t always lived as an artist.
As a child, I followed some years of Chinese water-colour classes, then later as a teenager studied sketching with my high school art teacher. Growing up, I dreamt of attending art school, but it didn’t align with my life path at the time. Instead, I left for Canada to study Business and Finance and made a successful career in nonprofit and philanthropic organisations. That journey took me to many countries before I settled in the Netherlands. Since 2020, I picked up drawing again as a hobby, taking casual lessons from Marcello & Els - a warm artistic duo in Den Haag.
In 2023, after a major career shift, an inner voice called me back to the world of art. It felt like life is giving me a second chance to recommit to my passion and pursue my childhood dream. So here I am, following my heart and working my way back into this dream world, looking forward to going wherever it takes me. The name “isbing” is a play off of my Chinese name 冰, which translates to “ice”. And “Is” is “ice” in Old English. It is a gentle reminder to “be me”.
Creating comes to me naturally. I enjoy playing with different styles and mediums, depending on the feeling and expression the subject evokes in me. Although my favourites are pen, graphite, coloured pencils, and watercolour. I create both realistic and imaginative works, sometimes a cross of the two. Even though there’s always a lot of refined details in my work, I find it wonderfully liberating to intentionally leave a touch of rawness here and there.
